Freight questions, answered plainly

What does a freight forwarder in Delhi actually do?

A freight forwarder arranges the movement of your cargo from origin to destination on your behalf: choosing the route and carrier, booking the space, preparing the transport documents, clearing the goods through customs and arranging delivery at the other end. We handle all of those steps in house from our New Delhi desk, so one team answers for the whole movement rather than one leg of it.

What is the difference between a freight forwarder and a customs clearing agent?

A freight forwarder organises the transport; a customs clearing agent, also called a CHA or customs house agent, files the entry and deals with customs on your behalf. Many companies are one or the other, which is why shipments stall in the gap between them. We are both, so the team that booked your cargo is the team that clears it.

Which ports and airports do you work through?

Our operations desk works to the IGI air cargo terminal in New Delhi and handles sea movements through the major Indian gateways, including Nhava Sheva (JNPT), Mundra and Chennai, along with inland container depots serving the Delhi NCR region. Road movements connect those gateways to your door anywhere in India.

How do I get a freight quote, and what details do you need?

Send us the origin and destination, the commodity, the gross weight and dimensions, the number of packages and your preferred mode — air, sea or road. If the cargo is temperature-sensitive, hazardous or requires a licence, tell us at that point. With those details we can come back with a rate and a realistic schedule rather than an estimate that changes later.

Do you handle both import and export shipments?

Yes. We handle import and export consignments by air, sea and road, including the customs clearance on both sides of the movement, warehousing between legs and consolidation for cargo that does not fill a container or a pallet.

What documents are needed for import customs clearance in India?

A standard import clearance needs the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or airway bill, and your IEC details, together with a bill of entry filed on your behalf. Depending on the commodity you may also need a country of origin certificate, an import licence or permit, and clearances from bodies such as FSSAI, CDSCO or the Plant Quarantine authority. We check the file against the commodity before the cargo lands, so missing paperwork is raised early.

Should I ship by air or by sea?

Air freight suits cargo where time or shelf life decides the value — samples, spares, pharmaceuticals, perishables and anything replacing a stock-out. Sea freight suits volume and weight where the schedule is known weeks ahead. For part loads, sea consolidation often lands close to air pricing on small, dense cargo, so it is worth asking us to compare both before you commit.

Can you arrange cargo insurance?

Yes. Carrier liability is limited by weight, not by what your cargo is worth, so we arrange marine and air cargo insurance covering the declared value of the consignment. Tell us the invoice value when you book and we will include the cover in the quotation.
